pilpi.net layout history

Some versions of my have-been sites are missing, the development never actually was from-one-version-to-another but the site has been developing in small leaps.

pilpi.net (January 2008 - )

The main focus of this upgrade was to simplify the navigational UI through flattening the navigation (from two-level hierachy to one level) and moving content out of the main navigation menu. I also reorganized and simplified the front page and and moved my contact info on it from a separate page since finding it is likely to be a central use case.

Also the CSS solution of the layout is new. Now all layout widths are defined in terms of em's instead of the percentages of the previous version, with max-width: 100%. This way maximum flexibility for all resolutions is achieved while keeping the line length readable when possible.

Further enhanced the simple templating system so that multiple templates were usable simultaneously.

pilpi.net (Autumn 2002 - January 2008)
A new layout. Several rethinks of the site structure during this period. Also introduced both Movable Type and Nucleus CMS blogging engines for managing the news about site upgrades, new content, and my own blog/journal.

pilpi (in the beginning of 2002)
The PHP site I created in the Autumn of 2001 had a simple PHP script that allowed the site layout to be switched pretty easily, so I then made another one. The new great big thing about this one was the aforism randomizer at the top of the page. In English, with a separate "help-page" for Finnish users.

pilpi (Autumn 2001)
My first PHP creation. Also a quite complete HTML code rewrite. Had pretty much the same content as the last oui's nest, although constantly expanding and developing. Layout solution: Tables. In English with a separate "help-page" for Finnish users.

pilpi.net (Spring 2001)
The first actual site that could be accessed in the address http://pilpi.net. There was no real content and I was planning to make my personal site a separate project and just leave the general stuff at pilpi.net root, perhaps creating a community of some kind. I also tried Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 template system with this one, but found the system quite clumsy. Layout solution: Tables. In English only.

oui's nest (2000-2001)
The page that turned up once the visitor had clicked her way through the frontpage (above). Layout solution: Frames + Tables. Bilingual.

oui's nest (2000-2001)
The last front page oui's nest had before turning into pilpi. This page has many hidden areas and hotspots, try them.Layout solution: Frames + Tables.
