dreaming of dreams

Today, Elina and me went to the Hervanta Library. I read Paulo Coelho's O Alquimista (Alkemisti), translated to Finnish. Otherwise, the day's been a bit.. dead.

Yesterday my mother and Ville took us to Pyynikki summer theatre to see Hopeinen Kuu, a play about Olavi Virta, an old Finnish singer-slash-entertainer. It was, well, okay. Before that, we ate in a restaurant. While eating, surpricingly mother and Ville also gave us tickets to a Silja Line cruise (of which Elina and I had been dreaming all summer =). When we got home, mother also revealed the lamp they had bought for my dark little hut (they got it cheap ;)

By the way, also starring in the photo: An icon Ada and Alex brought to me as a present from Romania when they arrived in the beginning of June. Nice, huh? (=

Sambalele

While writing the previous entry I had no idea there was a bit of the evening still to go, frustrating.

Anyway, I forgot to mention, I published an old text I found from the 'drawer'.

dictionarizing

It's been a long day, but the ending was stressless - I read two chapters of The Borribles, and I'm still loving the book.

Earlier during the day I visited the ski jumping towers again as I did yesterday; this time I had a camera with me and I did take a bunch of photos, too.

Actually, these were the first shots taken on the road with that camera; as mentioned, the old HP 850 went out for guarantee repairs, so a courier brought me a new one this morning.

pepuke

If you wished, you might translate the title as "buttlet" or "asslet". But enough about that.

Just finished watching Neverwhere, episode 4. Just heard that Elina might be willing to watch another one tonight, which is a delight.

Today we reorganized my room. I was thinking of submitting a photo of the new order, but then I forgot about it or something.

I also managed to return return bottles worth of about seven and a half euros today, and after that I washed the enormous mountain of dishes - not many clean ones were left.

At one point of the evening we also took a bike ride to Lukonmäki, a part of Tampere nearby my part of the city, Hervanta. It was rather misty and beautiful near the ski jump, and I regretted I hadn't taken my camera with me.

Oh yeah, I've also been reading The Borrible Trilogy during the past week. I do love it, don't I.

Just the usual, you see.

Mulletproof Bonk

Oh, what an innovation, that title. Bonk Business, Inc. Mullets Galore.

We were supposed to watch Bulletproof Monk but it didn't work out, so we saw Vanilla Sky. So you understand (especially taking that you've seen it) I'm feeling a bit unreal right now.

Once in a while I imagine, while writing this journal that I'm writing to an old, trusted friend. And even though I actually know that anyone can read my mind here, I sometimes get surprised when someone talks to me about things they could only have read in this journal.

About twelve minutes ago, me and my flatmate Nikolai were supposed to start cleaning up the common fridge, since frankly, it stinks like you can't imagine.

Once I was me,
loving the woman I always was
supposed to

then one day a part of me was
gone - my face, namely
I lost my face, and there,
vanished,
was my perfect life,
as well

Litter (box) (ox)

My entry titles are getting more and more insane day by day.

Today, I (with my flatmate Nikolai, sort of) cleaned the fridge - now you can breathe as you open the door to our appartment! (= I also baked some bread, so ACHIEVEMENT is in the air.

Watching Neverwhere, which suits our fancy muchly, with Elina.

Sitä vaikeaa on ymmärtää kun ei sitä nää

This morning, I called the Hewlett-Packard guarantee repair service, since my Photosmart 850 camera shows an entirely pink image (when it's supposed to show what's in front of the lense) now and then. There are also some other failures to it... I'm getting a new one next Wednesday.

Installing Movable Type on my home-made server, in hopes of getting it to function.

nyt on sen kuoreen kirjoitettu 'baby I love you'

Woke up about half an hour ago. Before that, I had breakfast at 8 in the morning. My mother's coming by in the evening - by then I'm supposed to decide whether I'm going to her summer cottage or not. Elina said she has to stay in Tampere to study...

Frustrated about the fact that no one has bothered to reply my post in the Movable Type forum after a few days. Updating the bloody software caused even more Internal Server Errors (aka HTTP 500), and after finishing writing this in w.bloggar and clicking that "post & publish" -button, I'll still have to make sure to publish the thing wia MT web interface. An-noy-ing.

I downloaded this app called OfficeGym, since my wrist still suffers in some degree of computer usage. I decided that the only way I'm going to get rid of the pain is to exercise once in a while to pause using the computer. The application is designed to remind me every thirty minutes to exercise.

Unfortunately or not, I'm way too accustomed to multitasking, so in addition to interrupting my computer usage with exercising, I also tend to interrupt the exercise that interrupted the computer usage, with computer usage. It's surpricingly hard to focus on a daunting task - such as tilting your head in a direction or another - for as long as two minutes. Anyway, I end up getting plenty of exercise. The exercise programs on the shareware app mentioned are sort of long, though.

Also downloaded Mozilla Firebird for the first time, as a result of hearing about AOL pulling the plug on Netscape - did that site get a facelift or what?! Anyway, I discovered that Firebird simply rocks - even more than Mozilla, which is a surprise in itself. How I'm longing to see the day when internet exploder dies.

post asleep-awake

Just woke up in the heat, after falling half asleep with my daytime clothes (read: shorts) still on. Not sure whether I'm awake or not.

A week ago, while in Tampere centrum to see some of the Tammerfest summer festival, I lost my sunglasses, and thought I left them somewhere. Nope. About an hour ago they peeked out from my camera bag.

Strange.

Pori Jazz photos

Pori Jazz photos

home sweat home

Hot and bothered. Got home at about six. Made food, but put in too much water (again) so had to try to vaporize it for quite a while.

Yes, the Pori Jazz is over. Still haven't published any photos from there. Lots and lots of people. Heat. Yesterday, there was the main concert. Saw the Curtis Fuller Sextet, Keiko Matsui, Don Johnson Big Band and Jamiroquai. We picked our entrance to the concert area badly, so while queueing we missed the New Orleans Original Royal Players. In the line we also got a bit annoying and annoyed so Elina and me had some small quarrels.

I only knew Don Johnson Big Band and Jamiroquai beforehand, but surpricingly the most enjoyable experience was Keiko Matsui's play. Later, while was signing people's records, she also posed for me when I took a photo. (=. After the concert I also met Sami, another friend from the lower compehensive school.

On Friday, Ilkka took us for a sightseeing tour in Ulvila with his car (as Esko had done the day before). I loved to see my childhood playgrounds (I used to live there from ages 3 to 13), but not as much as I had expected. On Friday night we spent some time on Ilkka's family boat, as well.

Can't think of much more. I'll try to publish those photos ASAP.

90% meat by-product

Just saw Conan O'Brien and that phrase was... there. Right.

I'm in Pori. The town is currently occupied by Pori Jazz, an annual festival-sort-of-thing. Other times than this, the city is pretty much empty. They named the Pori Jazz -phenomenon after this.

It's been good. We woke up at eight, since our ride to Pori had promised to arrive at half past, and he did. Before noon we were in Pori (a trip of avg. 100 kilometres), where my aunt Marja picked us up and drove us to her place - returning to Tampere direction by about 50 kilometres... smart. While there, got Marja's e-mail fixed and installed firewall software. She bought / made us food and strawberries with whipped cream (another high point of the summer). Elina enjoyed herself by dancing in the sprinklers that are supposed to keep Marja's lawn alive.

In the evening we got back to Pori and met bitnik. I'm writing this from his place, which is beautiful. A bit, white flat, furnished perhaps a bit in a Japanese style. The past few hours the three of us have been strowling around the Jazz street, using the money that was "earned" from Marja. I bought a Nina Simone CD, which turned out to be a live recording, to my disappointment. It's alright, though.

Also, I got some positive feedback of the image, again. Also, a discussion I started is relatively active.

Stillness

And then, suddenly there's peace. Perhaps because of the (methinks) fair criticism I got of the image I published last night.

Ha-ha lollipop

The freedom I have makes me distressed. If I'm temporarily not free, I have an urge to break free - of most things. In freedom, what kills me is the vanity of everything mankind has ever done, or so it seems to me right now. Someone cynical might say: "So what? Just accept that everything is useless and try to make of it what you can!" - but I can't do that, either. Choosing something to do is the hard part. Naturally, I will end up choosing the option that seems best (though by far not good enough) - but that leaves me frustrated, which, in turn, makes me inefficient.

pick a dream, any dream
what is it?
why are you going with it
only, because you did so yesterday,
or because your father did?
where will it lead?
is it right, do you want to go there?
what is it you will have to do
to get there? now, do it.

As if. I'm stuck on the first line.

Fresh from sauna

Found out yesterday that my honey Elina was accepted to study social psychology in out university! So now I'm dating a humanist instead of a computer scientist (=.

I also patched Elina's bike tire yesterday. It was my first one.

After all this we ate in a Chinese restaurant and went to the cinema to see Charlie's angels: Full throttle. It was alright.

light beige

All these small things.

Right now I'm learning Flash, again. Going through tutorials and feeling like I'm learning nothin really useful. Earlier in the day I cooked some Chili con carne (the one I was supposed to make yesterday) and Elina seemed to have liked it (I seldom am too successful a cook).

After eating, The Darling Buds of May was on TV just conveniently.

Laying around

Planning to make chili con carne tonight. It's bound to be a disaster, since I'm cookin'.

Last night was a late one for Elina and me. At 2:40 in the morning we found ourselves from the nearby Suolijärvi lake, me keeping her company while she swam.

Just watched the movie '100 girls'. It was... well, not that good - but still we couldn't help but finish it.

And no, it's not pr0n. x)

Candle making

Candle making process

So today was like made for getting rid of the stearine (candle wax) I had been gathering around from old candles. Yesterday I received a poster which I had ordered last week (made of a photo I'd taken) - and it came in a cardboard cylinder perfect for candle making (lower left corner of the picture).

Well of course the bottom of the cylinder wasn't melt stearine proof; hence the image of the stearine-covered oven. But after using some plastic bags and tape on the cylinder everything went fine - except for the fact that I meant the candle to be more clearly brown-red-blue-yellow-striped; now it's just different shades of brown. It's still beautiful, though.

Over

My grandfather got buried. I never felt genuinely sad.

Thanks to Malixeanz, my old school pal, I've been tweaking this nifty little VB app Samurize the rest of the evening. So, currently on my desktop is the current Finnish TV programme, in addition to some freshly baked news and hard drive free space.

Gee, was that useful or what.

Earlier I realized that Andrea, Jenni, Bogdan and Juuso were here. We watched the movie 'One hour photo'. It was pretty nice. After that, Andrea and Bogdan took me to the technical university - andrea wanted to see some results and I got to roller skate on those aisles. So smooth and nice. (=

Poof

Still in Vantaa.

It's been a while since I've last woken up at 7:18 A.M. We're going to the funeral of my grandfather and since it's a couple of hundred kilometres away, the takeoff's in twenty minutes. I'm wearing a suit right now =/. In the funeral, I've been told, I'm supposed to photograph the entire family. Well, I won't need to be that social then, will I.

Yesterday I visited Helsinki, saw Emil, visited Kiasma (the future cinema show etc.) and returned hydron a couple of CD's Jenni (Sekenre^) had borrowed from him. We also had a talk of about 45 minutes.

self-satisfied

Just succeeded installing Horde/IMP and imapfilter on my dear Debian Linux server. To me, Linux is still a whole world of its own: installing horde took about two days - searching for php modules, upgrading PEAR, configuring horde, imp and databases and so on. But now it works. (=

The advantage? I can access my mailbox through webmail. Now, I could do that before, as well - through my university's Horde - but I was limited to sending mail with the From: address field set to Olli.E.Savolainen at uta.fi, which is less than convenient. With my own horde, I can set the from: field to whatever I want. And using imapfilter, I filter my mail for spam (the university mail system uses spamassassin to flag it), even if my dear'ol Mozilla isn't there to do that, like at home.
