altogether wonderful to me
I'm full of sin, but Jesus, the son of God came on earth to die for me and my evilness, He got victory over death so that if I just trust God - that is, believe in Jesus and what He did - I can be free of that sin that would dominate me and eventually lead to eternal divorce from God. THAT is what Easter is all about!
A way-too-detailed explanation of a coincidence follows.

Valon pako, palon pelko
I'm here wondering about God and life, helping with a gospel happening for the young. Still it seems like my life is standing still, I have too many good and fun things around me and that results in the fact that I get tired of even trying to search for the best, for truth, for God and His will for my life. I've also failed to get a birthday present of any kind for Hankku, at times forgetting it and at times just not knowing how I could manage to get one for her. But really, if I could get myself to just do it (or pray for it, d'oh) I know I could think of something.

A poor man's CMS
A poor man's CMS in PHP (haven't tested if it would actually work, just an idea):
$content = <<< EOF
[page content]
EOF;
echo $content;
<form action="/poorcms.php" method="post"><textarea name="edited_content"><?php echo $content; ?></textarea></form>
...then apply a WYSIWYG editor to that textarea and have poorcms.php overwrite the file itself with the contents of $_POST['edited_content']? Naturally, to keep editing the file and to have actual structure (not just the content, this code itself plus the structure would need to be inserted in the file, too. So poorcms.php actually would first need to read the file being edited into a variable and substitute whatever is between <<< EOF and EOF; with the new, submitted content... kinda quirky, to say the least. (=. I'll try to remember to test the idea at some point, but if you do, and when you do, be sure to comment on this entry about your experiences... please (=.
Another option would be to read the entire file in the texarea in the first place and just directly overwrite the file with the contents of that textarea . I'm not sure how well the textarea/WYSIWYG editor would be capable of handling that, though.

What a lovely word I just came up with (the title). Don't know if it exists.
Writing this, I'm sitting on a pile of eight mattresses in a comprehensive school building. It's Good Friday, about 5:30 in the morning: the job is to supervise the school in which some dozens of (mostly) teenagers are being accommodated in - and hopefully sleeping. The Quiet action (QA; link in Finnish) happening is taking place (begun yesterday and will continue until Sunday). We're a team of two supervisors tonight, me and a girl named Ella whom I just met yesterday for the first time.
Reading Creative Bible Study by Laurence O. Richards, I just understood something about the relation of Law (all those commandments) and Mercy (which is, in particular, seen in what Jesus did) in the Bible. It seems helpful in the way one should understand the role of Law: it's about performance. Even though Law never measures our worth in God's eyes - he's promised to love us anyway - it can be seen as a sort of a performance meter for ourselves: do we find ourselves committing to God's will just out of love (though probebly mostly, love for ourselves)?

standard family weekend
I did end up in Helsinki on Friday, Hankku went to her parents' place in Jkl. (I'm writing this on dad's pc running SuSE and Konqueror and for some reason, although I'm editing HTML source, it colors some words I write red. Strange indeed.)
Today I've been playing with Emil a lot, we took a winter trip to Seurasaari across the frozen sea. After that we went downhill with Emil's Stiga.
Yesterday, when coming back from the 3K evening in God's Gas, I sang to my recording MuVo. My singing sounds WAY better inside of my head than when heard from headphones =P.

Kuka tätä laivaa ohjaa?
Planning to fast on easter. Perhaps starting on Monday, I don't know yet. I've never done it before and there are many different ways to do it, so I'll have to evaluate the options. Perhaps I'll just stop eating and drinking altogether.... erm, not.
Yeah I'm a bit sad right now, I haven't eaten much today, either. I was contacted about a job yesterday but I'm not sure yet whether or not I'm going to get it, there were quite a few other applicants. Anyway, it seems to fit like a glove (I didn't think such a job even existed).
Listening to Joose Keskitalo in a university hallway. Late yesterday evening I decided to take a train to Tampere to see Hankku. Now I'm wondering what the heck to do this weekend - I was supposed to go to Helsinki but ... why not stay here?
I'm starting to understand something about my complete and utter freedom when I'm living with Christ. Doesn't change the fact that I'm afraid of confronting people when it comes to talking to them about anything I might expect to be remotely controversial, though.

s lo w o qu i et
(Links in this entry are in Finnish)
Been doing stuff, buying stuff (a small bible pouch, a backbag, changeable toothbrush brushes). Also got my new passport. Was supposed to go to Suora Lähetys but haven't managed so far. We'll be helping to arrange the happening too, and would've gotten free entry, but we were just plain too tired and busy wondering how to get ourselves going this morning that it looks like we're just going to do our duties and get nothing out of it.
Yesterday Jennitys got married with Jussi, and we were in the city administrative court (maistraatti) to celebrate it together. Sami and Mikael, my friends from Ryttylä joined us to play a love song for them as a congratulation. Swee-et, really.

tahtoisin laulaa
(All the links in this posting are in Finnish.)
I feel like babbling but I'm not really all that interested in my own babble, so to keep myself from getting bored and frustrated, I'll try to keep it short.
I'm getting to like Malla's flat. It's empty in a lovely way, there's room to breathe - something that didn't occur in my flat in the times I had one.
Just now a few minutes ago I noticed a photo of me on the wall, along with several other photos of, um, people. Also, though I'm not sure, there's at least one photo I've taken.
Today we had the Väinö meeting I've been babbling about. We added lots of pictures around the site, added new articles, planned the future of Väinö and also did some plans for Suora lähetys, a happening next weekend in Tampere (in which Vesa Siltala, the leader of Väinö, is leading a workshop). It's going to be great.
After the meeting went to a local Evangelical students' evening, which was very nice; Lauri Thurén taught us about the book of Amos - the teaching was mainly of historical nature, and I was amazed that I could actually follow it pretty well. I hope I'll have the energy to look through my old lecture notes and make myself clear about which era is the book of Amos actually talking about.
I'm beginning to realize that I'm actually pretty Lutheran. Before, I had no clue.

morning, early
Searched for "micropedia" on Google, inspired by a book in this flat I slept in last night, and found something rather amusing. Perhaps I'll try doing something similar once I find out that I actually don't have anything better to waste my time on.
Watching Good Will Hunting, but won't have time to reach the end. Wondering about the whole of my life.

Tamperelainen, Turussa
I'm in Malla's student flat in Turku for the first time in my life. It feels strange for one particular reason: the inhabitant herself isn't here. She just borrowed me the key since I needed accommodation. I'm not sure I would have trusted many people as much as she seems to. Admirable.
It's kind of creepy. A while ago I was afraid someone would turn a key in the lock.
Tomorrow: a Väinö meeting.

Creative MuVo Micro N200 (FM, 512 MB)
NOTE! 7th March, 2005: Photos added.
Creative MuVo Micro N200. That's the monstrous name of the new MP3 player I received today - got tired of Creative sending me too many broken Rhombas in the guarantee process so they suggested that I'd take this one. (Excellent customer service from their part.) So far, I'm very happy with it.
- Still no OGG support!
- No built-in battery. One AAA. Once I get to Turku in the weekend I'll buy rechargeables.
- The radio actually works (so far --- though Radio Dei is too weak in Ryttylä for this little device to receive)
- Analog recording via a line in + on-the-fly MP3 encoding. Tried it once but the sound was really quiet. Might have been a problem with just the input, though.
- A microphone, seems to work as well as Rhomba's - no mp3 encoding (supposedly microsoft .wav)
- No physical key lock, but one implemented with software, similar to that of say, Nokia cell phones
- very few buttons: play/pause, a scroller (left/right/push), vol up, vol down. Most functions are menu operated so unless you learn the menu by heart, you can't use the device for most functions without actually looking at it. Also, a bit slow to use sometimes. Slow to browse through songs.
- More play modes than in Rhomba (seems they've seen my complaints or something =): A-B (programmed? haven't tested), repeat track, repeat all, repeat folder, track once, shuffle repeat, shuffle once, shuffle folder
- I haven't found a way to delete more than one file at a time. Haven't looked at the manual, though. Not easily found in any of the menus, anyway.
- The earphones are white and very stylish (=. Somehow reminds me of Apple/iPod.
- came with a silicon protecting case (which also functions as a belt clip), one batetry, one strap (the purpose of which I'm yet to find out), a driver/manual CD, a quick start guide

What is this?
A Christian student writing about life, faith, software etc. both in English and in Finnish. Some photos and poetry, too. Not thinking much about whether I'm being interesting or not. See also my work blog: Moodle Quiz UI
Please comment. Anything :).
Helsinki time, GMT+2.
